1. Naturalness

The presence of natural ingredients is becoming increasingly important in quick morning breakfasts, as many consumers consider them healthy and environmentally friendly. In Germany, for example, half of breakfast cereals buyers choose cereals made from natural ingredients. Over the past five years, the number of such products, that do not contain artificial additives or preservatives, has increased by 16% in Europe. As more and more people choose a natural and healthy start to their day, this trend is expected to continue growing.

2. Rich in fiber

High-fiber breakfast cereals are also becoming increasingly more popular. Whole grain was the leading trend in global new cereal launches last year with 38% growth, followed by high fiber with 30% growth.

3. A diet with a high protein content

While high protein content is popular globally, Asia Pacific leads the way with 11% growth in demand for high protein cereals.

4. Ingredients that are related to the immune system

The Covid pandemic has made foods that support a healthy immune system more important than ever. About 3% of global new cereal launches between 2016 and 2020 included immunity claims, demonstrating untapped potential in the sector.
So, manufacturers, especially those who can offer consumers new healthier alternatives without losing taste, will benefit from this increased interest in ready-made breakfasts.
